FROM HOME GROWN MINT TO MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM!

Posted by Marston Moretaine Office on

We hadn't been able to make our Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream in a while. The reason? We infuse hot organic milk with fresh Moroccan mint and we just hadn't been able to find good enough quality Moroccan mint lately. Our Founder Julie Fisher took matters into her hands and started cultivating the mint in her back garden. And the first tubs of ice cream are now available, just click here to order. And read more below about Julie's mint growing journey!

"I don’t know why it’s so difficult to find Moroccan mint, I accept  we’re not in Morocco 🇲🇦 but I just don’t know why it’s so difficult to source.

So this year we decided actually we would grow our own and after a fairly slow start and some rather hefty investment in a state of the art hinging poly tunnel contraption (and 180 small plants), we were in business.

The slugs and snails 🐌 immediately  found their way in and gorged themselves on tender mint, we put a stop to that with the unravelling of a roll of copper tape.

First harvesting produced enough for 54 medium tubs ,and now we’re about to harvest the second crop so once it’s established, I’m really hoping it could be prolific.🤞

I thought it would take 10 minutes to pick the first crop, which was a big underestimation, actually it took about 35 minutes to collect it all.

Whizzed it up the M1 🚗 and into the walk in fridge, we soaked it in the hot mix, then strained it and just over a week later we have tubs of mint chocolate chip. Hurrah simple! 🎉 "
